Being a Look at the News Best Consumed With a Strong Antacid

A couple of names are coming at me as blasts from the past this week.

First, I seem to have coaxed my Republican cousin Ray Sixkiller out of self-imposed retirement. When I had a weekly column for Indian Country Media Network, Cousin Ray was right there with me. But as Donald Trump became more visible, Ray Sixkiller became less so. When ICMN went belly up, Ray had an excuse to quit wiseassing the news with me.

I’ve missed him, so I’m going to try it once — but I understand the curators will not have a box for it and so it’s probably a lost cause. If it does get curated, I will lean on Cousin Ray to continue.

The price of his return was my promise not to wrap Trump around his neck.

The other name is Dan Coats. I did not live in Indiana during his service in either the House or the Senate, but he was a major Republican light. I visualized Coats as being somewhere to the right of Attila the Hun. Coats is an alum of Wheaton College, which has the reputation of more academic rigor than most schools that identify themselves as Christian. The most famous alum is Billy Graham. He did not attend a top law school (the law school at Indianapolis was too new) but he made law review. He seemed smarter than Dan Quayle, but that just meant it…
