I have author status on several publications but nobody has told me what that means. Does it mean that I can publish directly just like I do on Medium?

If so — and I know this sounds weird — I’d rather not have the option to publish directly until I’ve read enough to be certain that what I’m trying to publish fits the AoA audience. I was pretty sure about this one, but sometimes I have something that is only about education at the margins and I’d rather have a second opinion.

I don’t know how to have a conversation with you that is not public and there are things I would tell an editor that I would not want to tell the world.
