The Technical Term Might be Raw Deal, but I Volunteered

I’m getting discouraged with Medium.

Failing at this would be second only to failing to publish my memoir after winning a race with my own mortality to get it done. It was important to me to write about how a ninth grade dropout gets to be a judge and a professor. I did not account for the possibility others would not be as excited about reading what I was so excited about writing.

Have I been too lazy?

My first publication on Medium was March 23, so I’ve been writing for 158 days.

I have published 221 articles in that time.

I accepted from the get-go I would need time to accumulate a following. I now have 227 followers. I am a “top writer” in politics, history, racism, and education.

In the gig I had when Mr. Cancer came to visit, with Indian Country Media Network, I had a minimum guarantee of $1,000 a week. In a typical week, I made $1,500.

I like the freedom of the publication process at Medium but I very much miss interaction with live human being editors. I started out to make my membership fee, five bucks a month. The whole idea of writing instead of paying came to me as I was…
