You have certainly got my attention. I was close to giving up.

I do think it’s interesting to compare you — who know everything about Medium — to me. I’m an experienced writer who knows zip about Medium. I had never heard of it.

I had a gig with Indian Country Media Network that guaranteed a thousand bucks a week, but I always made more than that. Then ICMN folded.

Through one of the ICMN editors, I got a new gig at Newsweek. Less writing for more money. Then a DA ran a search warrant on the offices of Newsweek’s parent company. The editor assigned a team of reporters to find out WTF? As a result, both the editor and the reporters got fired. I could not stay under those circumstances. At least I got one cover story that paid more than any other one piece of writing ever.

I was racing with my own mortality to finish a memoir about how an Indian kid from rural poverty drops out in the 9th grade and goes on to have two great careers as a judge and then a professor. I won the race and then, between efforts to peddle the memoir, I cast about for how to earn some walking around money. I had been a Medium member since August, 2018, for reading purposes.

I had gotten to the point where I was canceling subs right and left, but when I started to cancel Medium, I decided instead to earn that five bucks a month. My initial goal was to write 30 articles in 30 days.

I first published in the Ides of March and here’s my results:

03–29 $11.26

05–03 $71.38

06–03 $87.64

06–28 $103.09

07-?? $129.44

I’ve published 186 articles, of which 41 were curated and 3 are in the line.

I am a top writer in Racism, History, Education, and Politics.

Now I’m hanging on to watch your results.
